Noah Keesecker • Diacope (2003)
for solo alto saxophone

Diacope is a rhetorical figure in sound. Literally it is the repetition of a word with one or more between, usually to express intense emotion. It derives from the Greek word diakopto “to cut in two, to cut through.”

Diacope is a layering of pointed interjections and displaced repetitions. It should be performed with a capricious attitude and driving intensity.
